Application
The thermalmachinery Automatic Riveter is designed for manufacturers producing thermal modules, heat sinks, and vapor chamber assemblies at scale. It handles the riveting step that mechanically fastens aluminum, copper, or VC plates together — a critical assembly process that determines structural integrity, contact pressure consistency, and long-term reliability of the finished thermal module.
It is widely used in the following production environments:
- Thermal module manufacturers — riveting aluminum and copper plate assemblies for CPU coolers, server heat sinks, and high-power electronics cooling modules
- Vapor chamber (VC) assembly facilities — riveting VC plates into heat sink and module structures for AI server, GPU, and data center chip cooling applications
- New energy & EV thermal management producers — riveting thermal interface assemblies for battery pack cooling systems and power inverter modules
- Consumer electronics manufacturers — precision riveting of thin aluminum and copper thermal components for laptops, workstations, and compact computing devices
- Contract thermal module assemblers — multi-product riveting using CAD-guided positioning and automatic rivet type switching to handle different product specifications in the same production run
If your production involves aluminum, copper, or VC plate riveting with precision positioning requirements and consistent pressure control, the thermalmachinery Automatic Riveter is designed for your assembly line.
FAQ
What materials can the automatic riveter handle?
The automatic riveter supports aluminum plate, copper plate, and VC (Vapor Chamber) plate riveting. All three material types can be processed on the same machine within the 300 x 300mm working platform area, with CAD-guided positioning adjusting automatically to the product specifications loaded for each production run.
What is the maximum riveting pressure and how is it controlled?
The maximum electric cylinder pressure is 2 tons. Pressure is monitored in real time throughout the riveting cycle — both position and pressure data are tracked continuously, allowing the system to detect any deviation from the programmed pressure profile and flag non-conforming units for review. This real-time monitoring eliminates under-riveted or over-riveted parts reaching downstream assembly stages.
How does the CAD-guided positioning system work?
The machine uses CAD drawing import to define rivet placement positions across the working platform. Once a CAD program is loaded, the machine automatically calculates the riveting sequence and moves to each position without manual coordinate entry. This allows rapid product changeover — loading a new CAD file is all that is required to switch from one product specification to another. Multiple product CAD programs can be stored in the machine for fast selection during production.
Is CCD vision correction required, or is it optional?
CCD vision correction is an optional feature. It is recommended for applications where workpiece placement variation during loading could affect rivet positioning accuracy — particularly for high-precision thermal module assemblies or products with tight positional tolerances. Without CCD vision, the machine relies on fixture alignment for consistent workpiece positioning. Our engineering team can advise on whether CCD vision is required for your specific product and tolerance requirements.
How does the automatic rivet type switching work?
The machine supports automatic switching between 2 rivet types without manual changeover. The rivet type used at each position is programmed via the CAD file — the machine selects the correct rivet automatically as it moves through the programmed sequence. This is particularly useful for thermal module assemblies that require different rivet specifications at different positions within the same product, or for production lines running multiple product variants with different rivet requirements.
Can I order the automatic riveter as a standalone unit or as part of a full production line?
Both options are available. The automatic riveter can be ordered as a standalone unit and integrated into your existing thermal module assembly line. It can also be configured together with our laser flatness detection equipment and thermal module performance testing machines as part of a complete integrated thermal module production line. We configure the equipment package based on your current production setup and output requirements.
Do you support OEM/ODM customization for non-standard riveting requirements?
Yes. We provide OEM/ODM equipment customization. If your product requires a larger working platform, higher maximum pressure, additional rivet type capacity, a different vision system configuration, or specific integration with upstream or downstream equipment, our engineering team can develop a customized automatic riveting machine solution. Contact us with your product specifications and production requirements.
Can I test the machine with my own workpieces before placing an order?
Yes. We support process validation before order confirmation. You can send your plates and rivet specifications to our Kunshan facility, and we will run a riveting trial on the machine to verify positioning accuracy, pressure consistency, rivet quality, and compatibility with your assembly requirements. This confirms the correct machine configuration before production begins.
